There are a few important things to know about me: I’m a huge Jurassic Park fan, I’ve never taken one of those Myers Briggs personality tests and had the same result as the time before and I love to travel – especially to the islands and specifically to Hawaii [but I’m also hanging for a return to Europe and a trip to Canada and Alaska] – that’s my elevator pitch if I had to write one.
I love the quiet suggestion of a trip, the hours dropped into research and preparation, and the thrill of the final countdown. I think the energy in the airport is electric, and I find joy in the little details when I’m traveling – honestly, even in delays or unexpected events.
They always make for good stories, right?
And maybe, just maybe, this bit is the part two of my elevator pitch [and definitely the motivation for starting up this blog; I’ve tried to work in travel. That might not seem like a vulnerability hour confession to you, but to me it is. In the past, I’ve felt embarrassed in my failure to carve a career in the travel industry. It’s been many years since I applied for one of those positions or attended one of those interviews, and I came close a few times! But I never did land one. And then I moved on.
So, why now? In 2022 we are two years into a global pandemic and I’m feeling the weight of its shadow. I’ve also been somebody’s mama for two-and-a-half years now and that’s brought with it much joy, and angst – I’ve struggled with Who I Am, posy-baby but perhaps more dramatically? I’ve struggled with My Why.
If I am to be entirely transparent, and I want to be, My Why has become really murky.
But I am confident of one thing. Amid financial uncertainly, lack of motivation, pandemic fatigue, comparisonitis, and a slew of other things – I’m ready to feel the thrill of travel once again. To scroll the sites, read the reviews, make the bookings and buy the expensive water in the airport – I am so ready for all of it.
What else should you know about me? I’m a package deal – I come with a husband and a 2-year-old, so they cramp shape my style. 😉
I hope you’ll join me on this ride; I’ll be sharing my stories and thoughts, and taking you with me. I can hardly wait!
